Foreign Comic Sales Breaking Records and Dr. Manhattan's Manhattan

Hello, hello, one and all! Welcome to another memorable episode of the Bags and Boards Show With ComicTom101 podcast! We’re always so delighted to have you here with us and seek to encourage you to take a trek over to the ComicTom101 YouTube Channel for additional comic book speculation highlights and entertainment!

If you’ve been following our podcast for a time (and it’s totally okay if this is your first listen), you’ll know that with every podcast write-up we provide a small recap on our previous podcast entry. In this case, let’s give a bit of a refresher by briefly glancing at some Wolverine news. We recently discovered Comic Reader #117, a little gem of a book as it contains a preview of Giant Size X-Men #1, but also what could be considered the potential real first appearance of the second full appearance of Wolverine.

And what about this week, you ask? We’ve got you covered, don’t you fear! In recent weeks we discussed foreign comics, or at least foreign versions of fan-favorite comics. Everything from Spider-Man to Conan the Barbarian have international versions of their respective comics and only now are collectors starting to develop a hunger for these unique books. Granted, there are those who’ve been hunting foreign comics for years, but now they’re on everyone’s radar. For example, there’s the famous Mexican El Sorprendente Hombre Arana (The Amazing Spider-Man) #128. This book has become a key since it includes a couple panels featuring Gwen Stacy married to Peter Parker that aren’t in its American counterpart. A recent copy sold on eBay for nearly $1200, folks! That’s just the tip of the iceberg where foreign comics are concerned. Be on the lookout!

Rest assured, there was a ton more that we went over, including the Dr. Manhattan vibrator on the HBO show Watchmen! For those who are super curious, HBO was even kind enough to provide actual specs for the device! One of the more humorous revelations is the dimension of the vibrator, since it’s supposed to be set to scale to Dr. Manhattan’s…Manhattan. Anyway, folks, we’re going to let you listen for more Manhattan goodness and everything else we talked about. Stop by again very soon!

And that wraps up our latest Bags and Boards Show With ComicTom101! Trust us, there was plenty more discussed this time, and if you’re intrigued, you’ll have to check out the ComicTom101 YouTube page and/or listen the podcast itself over on iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Stitcher! Don’t forget to come back every Sunday for a brand new episode!

As always, geek responsibly! ‘Nuff said!
