The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer: Everything You Missed

Welcome to the first installment of The Blog of Force!

This is a new weekly to biweekly blog about everything Star Wars. My name is Nate and I am your resident ComicTom101 Star Wars Expert. I’m here to break down the new Mandalorian Season 2 trailer and help you retain all that deep cut info they gave us before the new season starts streaming on October 30th.

First, I'm just going to let you know that Jon Favreau is my spirit animal. I think that's important to understand. He makes his shows and movies with such attention to detail that we, as the fandom, are lucky to have someone attached to this Star Wars property who cares as much as we do.

Ok, on to the trailer for the next installment of Disney+'s monster show, The Mandalorian, and it's every bit as epic as you hoped it was.

We open with the Razor Crest coasting towards a planet and we find out that this season is going to focus around The Mando reuniting The Child (Baby Yoda) with it's own kind. The voice over explains that it's his duty and gives us a little history about Mandalor the Great. In The Clone Wars cartoon, (this is a huge run with tons of keys including Ahsoka Tano, Sabien Wren, and more - You can check those out here) we find out more about the history of the Mandalorian People. Eons ago, a champion came up and took the title of Mandalor and united all of the warring tribes. The Narrator tells us of the "Sorcerers" that the first Mandalorians fought against and it is clear that our Mandalorian has heard all these stories before. The stories he knows from his childhood are of the Mandalorian Wars, a 16 year conflict between the Jedi Order and Mandalor. The war took a turn when a faction of Jedi named Revanchist, who followed one of the most infamous jedi/sith Revan, started to push back the Mandalorian forces. Eventually, and this is where I'm sure the Mando started hearing the story when he was a kid, Revan and Mandalor the Ultimate had a final showdown resulting in Revan quickly beating Mandalor. He stole Mandalor’s helmet, hiding it so it could not be passed down to the next leader of the Mandalorian people.

From Season 1, we know that a Mandalorian can never remove his helmet so you can imagine how much anger and hatred Mandalorans have towards the Jedi after Revan completely ignored, and tried to destroy, their traditions. Now you can feel the hate in The Mando's voice as he asks if he has to leave the child with "the Sorcerers".

Then we are introduced to Sasha Banks’ character hiding in the crowd then disappearing. We know that Rosario Dawson is playing Ahsoka Tano and for a second I thought this was our first look at her, but after a screen shot and some photo editing, its definitely Sasha Banks.

Who is Sasha Banks playing? I think she's going to be Sabine Wren.

At the end of Season 1 we saw Moff Gideon use the Dark Saber to get out of his crashed Tie Fighter. The Dark Saber is the symbolic weapon of Mandalor and only the leader of the Mandalorian people can wield it. The last time we saw the Dark Saber before this, Sabine Wren had it at the end of Clone Wars and it was implied she was meant to lead the Mandalorians into a new future. So why did Moff Gideon have it? How did Sabien loose it? I think we are going to find out this season and this is our first glimpse of the fallen Mandalorian leader.

Next we get some action shots of the Mando trapped in a tank filling with water and the pair walking into what looks like another part of the galaxy’s seedy underbelly, finding an underground fight club with two Gamorreans (the pig-faced guards from Jabba the Hutt’s Palace in Return of the Jedi) .

Lastly, we meet Gore Keresh. The cyclops looking character looks like he’s part of the Abyssin species. You might remember seeing them in the Mos Eisley cantina in A New Hope. Just as Keresh says, “So I’ve heard.” The Mando is surrounded by three thugs him and he opens his Whistling Birds from season 1. Baby Yoda remembers, just like I'm sure you do, what those Beskar infused cheat codes can do, so he closes is hover carrier in preparation for the inevitable Mando beat down. After all the fighting, the last person The Mando takes down is a member of the Dathomirian species, the same species as Darth Maul but this guy doesn't have all the tattoos.

Next, we get more shots of Mando using his iconic jet pack and a shot of some Imperial Storm Troopers running through the corridors of an Imperial ship. At this point, just as in season one, the empire is still in shambles and if you see a platoon of stormtroopers, you are going to meet a war lord Moff, like Gideon, who answers to no one and is after the child. This is probably Gideon's ship.

Along with the original storm troopers, range troopers, and other Original Trilogy characters, we get a shot of a pair of original X-Wing fighters flying alongside The Razor Crest. Since we are assuming Sasha Banks’ hooded character is not Ashoka Tano, could this be another Jedi like Ezra Miller? Or is it just someone who captured an X-Wing and is impersonating a Jedi? I don't know but I'm excited to find out. If they are Jedi, this will be the Mando's first interaction with the legends from his childhood.

Last we get the Mando Mantra from our hero as we get the obligatory hero shot, competing the excitement and hype factor, saying,

This is the way

That’s all I got after my first five views of the trailer lol. I wish we would have seen Moff Gideon and got more context into his role this season even though I think that was his ship with the storm troopers. I would have LOVED to see a silhouette of Ahsoka Tano in a hallway opposite the Mando but this trailer has officially got me searching my LCS dollar bins for any awesome Star Wars (specifically Mando) comics and about to rewatch all of season one again.
