Hello again, faithful listeners and welcome to another reality-bending episode of the Bags and Boards Show With ComicTom101 podcast! We’re more than delighted to have you here with us and encourage you to head on over to the ComicTom101 YouTube Channel for additional comic book speculation fun!
If you’ve been with us for a while, then you know that with every podcast write-up we enjoy giving a small recap on our previous entry. In this case, let’s give a bit of a refresher by going into some Todd McFarlane news. Turns out, the man is going to be doing some private signings with CGC, but alas, there are a couple books the creator is refusing to sign. If you want to know more, then go and give our last podcast a good listening to!
Now, let’s talk some recent news! In case you’ve been reading comics but haven’t been paying attention to key events, recent issues of Batman by Tom King featured the death of Alfred Pennyworth. In Batman #83, the Dark Knight must come to terms with the murder of his dear friend. For our purposes however, we took a moment to reflect on King’s run, its controversial nature, and how it’s wildly different (for better or worse) from everything that’s come before. The comic book community is extremely opinionated about King’s Batman, so tell us, kind reader, what do you think about the last 83 issues of Batman?
In sadder news, we reflected over the death of comic book artist Tom Lyle. A true craftsman within the medium, Lyle was responsible for the design of the Scarlet Spider costume. As superhero outfits go, Ben Reilly's Spider-Man costume continues to remain a cult classic favorite. Mr. Lyle will be missed, but his legacy shall continue and be embraced by generations of fans and readers.
Lastly, let’s talk Wolverine. Just like his character, the hunt to establish Logan’s first (and early appearances) won’t stay dead! Recently we discovered what could be considered the potential real first appearance of the second full appearance of Wolverine. Trying saying that ten times fast! Anyway, be on the lookout for Comic Reader 117, as it also contains a preview of Giant Size X-Men #1.
And that wraps up our latest Bags and Boards Show With ComicTom101! Trust us, there was plenty more discussed this time, and if you’re intrigued, you’ll have to check out the ComicTom101 YouTube page and/or listen to the podcast itself over on iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Stitcher! Don’t forget to come back every Sunday for a brand new episode!
As always, geek responsibly! ‘Nuff said!
