Deadman coming to HBO? Wait who is Deadman?

Updated: Nov 14, 2019

Something strange is coming to HBO and could it be a ghost?

Announced at the end of October, it’s said that Strange Adventures, which started its series back in August of 1950, will be coming to HBO Max. Now, one of the amazing characters to be birthed from the 244 issue run was Deadman! Deadman who’s real name is Boston Brand was created back in 1967 in the 205th issue of Strange Adventure. He was created by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino, later to be taken over by the iconic Neal Adams and Jack Miller. Now before we dive any deeper into Mr. Brand it’s worth mentioning that issue (#205) is much more than just his first appearance. In this issue, it’s the first time the CCA (Comics Code Authority) allowed for notable narcotics to be depicted. It’s no secret how strict the CCA was about this sort of thing being released in comics so it comes as a bit of a shocker that they approved this issue, ok back to Deadman. Deadman, before he became Deadman, was a circus trapeze artist performing under the stage name of “Deadman”. Yes, that red suit and white makeup was all part of his act and uniform. One tragic day Boston Brad was performing in his stage attire when he was murdered by a villain known only as “The Hook”.

Now, this is horrible but in his death, he was given the power to possess any living human or animal by a Hindu God, so that he could hunt down and bring justice to his murderer. To clarify his powers well, he's a ghost living among the living that no one can see (except for a few people). He has the ability to fly around and possess anyone he pleases and controls their every action, leaving them with no recollection of the possession, and yeah he can walk through walls. Now I will be pretty happy to see Deadman featured in an HBO TV series, but this isn't the first time talks of Deadman hitting the screen have been discussed before. Over on TNT, it was said Deadman would get his first live-action series but plans fell part and were scrapped and the same thing years later with the CW pulling the plug on a Deadman show. Currently, I can only cross my fingers and hope this Strange Adventure follows through on HBO and we get to see this amazing character hit the screen.

If you're interested in Key Issues, well you're in luck. There are only a few keys to hunt for and if you click the link in any of the picture captions, it’ll send you over to the Key Collector’s website where you can see a handful of affordable keys for Deadman. I hope you learned a thing or two and make sure to check out my Youtube video on Deadman and a few other lesser-known comic book characters.
